You'll have to click on the first listed pdf file on the site, but this explanation of hot and cold cultures is very interesting in light of our very multi-cultural church.
In evaluating myself, I found that I am kind of all over the map. In general, it seems that the cold, northern climate in which I grew up is actually fairly "hot" when it comes to culture. In my opinion, northern Minnesota is group-oriented, practices spontaneous hospitality, is low-context (anything goes--within reason), has a low value on professionalism (actually a disdain for too much of this) and values people over schedule. Identity is often tied to the "clan". On the other side of the coin, however, there is an emphasis on the "self-made man" and individualism when it comes to survival.
